has a profile of the upcoming Logan Circle House Tour, and the image heading the post is Logan Mansions, a project Arcadia Design did for PH Hoffman. They took the image from a previous article about Logan Circle in the Washington Post. http://dc.urbanturf.com/articles/blog/logan_circle_trendy_now_but_not_by_accident/1541

1349 V Street NW

This was an empty lot purchased by PN Hoffman. HPRB asked for the building to specifically "not" mirror the exisiting row houses. At the corner is the 7 story Union Row. We designed the new house to bridge the scale from the smaller 2 story houses. As the house is easily visible from 14th & V, we made the corner a tower element to puncuate the end of the row. In order to maximize the lot, the client wanted a 3 story design, while historic dicated 2 stories at the facade. The resulting solution is a split plan that steps up to to 3 stories at rear. This also allowed for a roof terrace at the front.

Part of the project included the resoration of the existing red brick adjacent, which is now painted white.

Logan Circle

It was so many years ago, I don't think many people realize that I did the restoration of 1 & 2 Logan Circle.

Many credit the opening of Whole Foods on P street as the beginning of the rennaisance of the area, which I think is only partly the case. I believe this and the construction of Logan Mansions on the empty lot across the circle was truly the turning point of the development of the neighborhood.

This is a link to 1441 S Street which just went on the market last week. I designed this project for Adams Investment Group back in 1999. There were 3 adjoining townhouses, one of 3 stories, and 2 of only 2 stories. I added a floor to the 2 to blend in with the existing "modified mansard" of the 3rd. I then created 2, 2-story units in each townhouse. By raising the entrance up a little, we created an entry to the top level unit, then you enter the lower unit almost at grade and the entry is split inside. The section through the building is very interesting, with multiple 2 story spaces and outdoor entertaining areas. You can see some before photos and floor plans on my main website at arcadiadesign-dc.com

I love building models for projects. This is the model for 23 Wades Court in Rehoboth Beach.
